On-site pathology collection, where you see your GP

Our clinic hosts an on-site 4Cyte Pathology collection centre at 99–103 Broadwater Avenue, Hope Island. Having pathology on-site makes it easy to complete the tests your GP requests – your samples are collected here and analysed by an accredited laboratory, with results returned to your doctor.

How to prepare

  • Bring your pathology request form and your Medicare card.
  • Fasting tests: if your test requires fasting, eat your normal evening meal, then have only water for the period your doctor advises (often 8–12 hours) before your test. Don’t fast unless you’ve been told to.
  • Medications: bring a list of your current medications, and check with your doctor whether to take them as usual.
  • Water: unless advised otherwise, drinking water before your test is fine and can help.

Your request form or our team will tell you if any special preparation applies.

Getting your results

Your results are sent back to your GP, who will review them and contact you if follow-up is needed. For your safety, we generally ask you to discuss results with your doctor rather than over the front desk – book a short appointment or telehealth review to go through them.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an appointment for a blood test?

For routine blood collection you can usually attend the on-site collection centre with your request form – no GP appointment is needed just for bloods. Some special tests need a booking and preparation. Call 07 5510 9222 if you’re unsure.

Many GP-requested pathology tests are bulk billed by the laboratory, with no out-of-pocket cost. Some screening or special tests may attract a fee. Your doctor or the collection centre can confirm if a test you need has a cost.

Only if your test requires it. For fasting tests, eat your normal evening meal, then have only water for the period your doctor advises (often 8–12 hours). Don’t fast unless you’ve been told to – your request form will indicate.
